In the Deep Clear manga’s story, the actress
(and Kodomo no Omocha’s main character) Sana Kurata asks the Office S detective agency (from Honey Bitter) to take on a strange case. The first half of the 100-page story will run in Cookie’s September issue next month.

Kodomo no Omocha (Kodocha) ran in Shueisha’s Ribon magazine from 1994 to 1998, and the manga inspired a television anime series that aired in Japan from 1996 to 1998. Both versions followed the slice-of-life school life of the child actress Sana and her polar-opposite classmate Akito. In 2004, Obana launched Honey Bitter, her current suspense manga about a girl who sees premonitions and works at her aunt’s detective agency. Tokyopop published the Kodomo no Omocha manga in North America, and Funimation released the anime version.

In the same September issue, Koi Ikeno (Nurse Angel Ririka SOS) will launch her new if no Frame series (pictured at left), and Yukie Sat will launch her Hanamizuki manga.

Screened in Singapore, Live-Action Gantz Film

Screened in Singapore, Live-Action Gantz Film
gantz film Screened in Singapore, Live Action Gantz Film

This is Anime news 2010. The Sports Hochi newspaper reports on Friday that the decision has already been made to screen the live-action film versions of Hiroya Oku’s Gantz manga in Singapore — despite the fact that the two films have not been previewed or even completed. Over 45 companies from 13 countries and regions have also made inquiries about acquiring the distribution rights.

The newspaper attributes the worldwide interest in the films to the original science-fiction action manga’s popularity in America, France, and other Western countries. The films’ two stars, Kazunari Ninomiya (Tekkonkinkreet, Letters from Iwo Jima) of the Arashi musical group and award-winning actor Ken’ichi Matsuyama (Death Note, Detroit Metal City, NANA, The Legend of Kamui), have also found some success overseas. Shinsuke Sato (The Princess Blade, Suna-dokei, Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror) is directing the films. The first film will open in Japan in the beginning of 2011, and the second film will open in the spring.

The production company NTV is showing 4 minutes of the films’ promotional footage at this week’s Film Market in Cannes, France. (The city is also hosting the Cannes Film Festival competition at the same time.)

In addition to Ninomiya and Matsuyama, Takayuki Yamada (Train Man, Crows Zero, H2: Kimi to Ita Hibi) is also starring in the films as “the mysterious man Shigeta.” The two main stars each have 10 of the 500,000-yen (about US$5,400) rubber “Gantz Suits,” which they wear when fighting in the films’ story.

The story follows a young Tokyo college student who is reanimated after a deadly subway accident. Kei Kurono (Ninomiya) and his friend Masaru Kato (Matsuyama) go on violent, seemingly endless missions at the behest of an unseen host.

Dark Horse Comics will publish the 10th volume of the original manga in North America next month. ADV Films released Gonzo’s television anime adaptation of the manga.

Funimation Adds Tsubasa: Tokyo Revelations, Shunraiki

Funimation Adds Tsubasa: Tokyo Revelations, Shunraiki

A8292 22 Funimation Adds Tsubasa: Tokyo Revelations, Shunraiki This is anime news 2010. The North American anime distributor Funimation has confirmed with ANN on Tuesday that it has licensed the Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations and Tsubasa: Thunder Spring Chronicles (Tsubasa: Shunraiki) original video anime series. Vic Mignogna (Fay D. Flourite), alongside fellow voice actor Chris Sabat (Kurogane), had actually made the announcement at the Anime Milwaukee convention in Wisconsin in March.
Kodansha released the Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations video series on three DVDs that were bundled with volumes 21, 22, and 23 of CLAMP’s original Tsubasa, RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE manga in Japan. Although this 2007-2008 anime series was not the first anime to be bundled on DVD with manga, it popularized the term “original animation DVD” (OAD) to describe these kinds of tie-ins.
The success of Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations spurred a new two-volume video series called Tsubasa: Shunraiki last year. The Tsubasa: Shunraiki DVDs shipped with volumes 26 and 27 of the Tsubasa manga in Japan.A10584 4 Funimation Adds Tsubasa: Tokyo Revelations, Shunraiki
The 2003-2009 Tsubasa manga tells a parallel-world fantasy adventure with alternate versions of characters from many of CLAMP’s other creations. The manga is known in particular for its crossovers with another recent CLAMP manga, xxxHOLiC. (The Tsubasa manga ended last October, but the xxxHOLiC manga is still running.)
Tsubasa has already been adapted into Tsubasa RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE The Movie: Princess of the Birdcage Kingdom and the Tsubasa, RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE television series. Del Rey will ship the last two Tsubasa manga volumes (#27 and #28) in North America in July and November, and Funimation already released the Tsubasa anime movie and television series.
